Objective : Short and specific statement that includes position, industry and/or relevant skills.
Summary : Include a summary for your resume. For example: Experienced consultant with five years of experience in information technology. Strong project management skills with extensive knowledge in statistical processes.
- Name of institution, city and state
- Degree, major and year awarded
- GPA (optional)
Skills : Mention your computer skills, languages etc.
Experience : List the recent first. Emphasize on achievements and contributions made to the company.
Activities : Campus and community activities, Memberships in professional organizations etc.
Personal : Certifications, security clearances, patents, special awards, citizenship etc.
Take Care of the following :
- Avoid using I, Me and My in your resume. For example: The statement 'I overshot my sales target by 20% and I was given a special increment by the marketing director' can be better written as 'Overshot the sales target by 20% and was given a special increment by the marketing director'.
- Connect your skills to your job history.
- Do not list personal information such as how you spend your leisure time.
- Mention your skills that are pertinent to the job you are applying for.
Your resume should answer the following questions:
- What special expertise did you bring to your current job?
- Have you attached any special praise or certificates of achievement presented to you or your department?
- What were the problems or challenges that you or the organisation faced?
- What did you do to overcome those problems?
Action verbs : Use action verbs to describe job duties. For example:
